Tyres for road and Richmond Park path

I'm buying my wife a new bike. She needs it mostly for road use, but she also uses pathways (mainly the perimeter path in Richmond Park and towpaths). It came with slicks which I'd like to swap for something that is a little more confidence inspiring on loose surfaces but isn't a full-on off-road tyre.

Something like a Continental Travel Contact looks about right.

Any suggestions? 700C rim, BTW.
