got a letter from the council through my door saying that my street will be closed for one of these events. i'm quite excited because i live on a steep cobbled climb so there could be some good action i can watch from my front door.

just wondering, as i didn't see any of these last year, what format do they take? the course is very short, so i'm wondering how many laps/how far the total usually is? is there just one race or are there pre-cursor events?

cheers

  • Loads of laps - usually very quick.

Should be plenty of build up and cycling related stuff to do, if you are going to the Canary Wharf race it should be pretty amazing.

Alex - you don't perchance live on crossgate in Durham? I got a similar letter yesterday. I can't wait!! Although if it rains the cobbles on South Street will be lethal as they brake down from 30-40mph to practically nothing to make the adverse camber >90degree corner onto crossgate!

i do, yes. i thought they were coming down crossgate and going up south street? which will be (slightly) safer but should still be good to watch.

You might be right actually, I'm not sure. That's still going to be pretty scary if its wet, its really steep! Generally a hard course really! Be interesting to see if they go for box rims and 25mm tyres etc.

    Tour Series website says:
"teams will aim each night to place their top 3 riders in the highest positions at the end of 1 hour of intense, fast paced and attacking racing with all the thrills and spills of any other speed sport"...........although in the rules it actually says "1 hour plus 5 laps"

.........although the British Cycling calendar listing is for 90min races.

Team with the best placed 3 riders out of their total of 5 starters wins that round.
