Can you ride over the Barrage at any time? (I was in Cardiff today and saw a couple of riders heading towards the Barrage off the roundabout at the bottom of Marina Hill.)
FCN 2-4.

"Exactly."

I believe so but you may get held up in the event that they are opening the lock gates.0

Yes it is now open as follows
Barrage Embankment (including footpath/cycleway to Penarth/Mermaid Quay)
7.00am - 10.00pm (from May 2009)
With the help of the Harbour Authority we are signing a 10km bay trail which should be open when Pont Y Werin opens on June 30th.

Cheers, folks.
@Benno - it was a fleeting visit, mate - as in, I arrived in Penarth by 8am and was back on the M4 by 1.30pm. Not sure when I'll next be down long enough for a ride. Will let you know.FCN 2-4.

Excellent. I commute over the barrage daily. Only been held up a couple of times by it opening. Much better option than riding down Penarth Road.
Now, if someone could just flatten Penarth so I don't have that climb on the way home (to Barry), I'd be really grateful...0 -

I *may* be able to squeeze a couple of hours in on the bike this coming Sunday. A bit up in the air at the moment. You around or are you going out with Ajax?FCN 2-4.

Awesome, I'll head down after my exams. I still haven't cycled round Cardiff much for leisure (although I get to explore the darker reaches by bike due to rugby refereeing) in the three years I've been here.0
