Looking to buy a pair knee warmers. Already own assos bibs so was going to get matching pair, any advice? Also looking at castelli and rapha, or would anyone recommend any others.

Also fairly new to cycling so legs are not as massive as some users of this forum, will i have a problem with them staying up?

Cheers...

Assos are one size and might not stay up. I would buy Santini from Prendas. I have Specialized but they are see through and grey.

I've been nicely warmed by the Solo CC kneewarmers. In fact I haven't ridden bare knees yet this year...

As already mentioned, the Assos are only made in one size, I ordered a pair, but sent them straight back as they didn't fit around my lardy thighs.

I have a pair of Specialized ones which are OK, they have Roubaix in the front and lycra on the back, but the upper leg gripper is a bit lightweight.

Just got some Santini ones from Prendas, haven't tried them yet, but the grippers are good and they are much longer than the others I have tried.

Best pair I've got though are some Nike ones. Think they are made by Giordana. They don't have a leg gripper at the bottom as it's not really necessary. The top gripper is good, fit is good, just wish I could get another pair, but they don't seem to make them anymore :(

The Assos ones I have are rubbish, they just don't stay in place.

The best pair I've owned were from Exteondo.

My Assos one's are fine, they are kept in place by the elastic of the bibs.

My bibshort leg grippers do a poor job (both on my Assos Mille FI unos and various Endura club gear) . they move down with time and need to be readjusted.

Assos should have put grippers on the top of the knee warmers. Problem solved.

I picked up a pair of Northwave knee warmers last week for a tenner in a sale - grippers on top and bottom.

    +1 on the Nalini/PBK

I got them when they were on a deal (as they frequently are). Come in 3 sizes and toasty warm...

I was always a 3/4 man myself, but i've found knee warmers add a bit of extra versitility to the wardrobe which is good in spring and early autumn, when it is cold in the morning, but warms up during the day - I find them good for my commute - (25 miles, each way) as i'm toasty in the morning with the warmers on, and cool in the afternoon with shorts on the way home and the warmers in my pocket

I also find them good when racing or TTing in my club kit, as it lets me wear club colour shorts, as my TT skinsuit is long sleeved, but short legged. I think i'd look like a superhero with a full length or 3/4 leg version.

If the elastic gripper is loose, maybe the bibs are too big?

nope - they shorts are fine and the gripper serves its purpose on the bare skin - not baggy / loose at all. its the way the silicone gripper sits on fabric which is the issue. - it does not prvide sufficient grip to stop them from moving

at 5'7" 74kg / 32" Waist, 30" leg, 19" leg circumference at short gripper level - i'm a meduim in Assos and Endura

The ones by DeFeet are very comfortable. They aren't lycra, more a wooley material. They are very stretchy and don't dig into the skin behind the knees.

Castelli thermofleece are lovely - got knee and arm warmers and they stay up well, fit well especially if you are a slightly slimmer build, and look good - that logo looks cracking IMHO. I'm not sure there is that much difference between most of these things though, so personally I wouldnt splash the extra for Assos etc. I also tried the Spesh ones and they were excellent, although a little more expensive.

i like my endura knee warmers and find leg warmers handy. but for some reason my santini shorts, and only my santini shorts, dont like them and the result is severe bollock pain.

Another vote for PBK/Nalini. I doubt I'll ever buy another pair of 3/4 tights, the knee warmers are just so much better.
