Hi All,

A little help please - I need to get some new slick tyres for my MTB so am after your tips please :-)

I have used the specialized all condtion pro's but tend to find after a few months of commuting they become extremely puncture prone! Which obviously doesn't appeal. But i do like they're foldie nature :-)

Anyone recommend any others?

I have one of these on the front of my MTB - Maxxis Overdrive Kevlar

I had one on the rear too but I went over something very hard and pointy which pierced it with a very loud pop.

The one on the front has been going for 18 months now through all conditions and still has plenty of life in it. No punctures to report either.

    +1

I had a set that lasted about 6 months of daily commuting and a LEJOG. I've been using that particular brand for a while, and I find that the tread goes before you get a puncture. Muy bueno :)

How fast do you want to go?

On my mtb i prefer a BIG slick as it is much more comfortable, like a 2.0 or 2.3" tyre. I'd recommend the tioga k-rad as i've never punctured one.

If you want skinny go for the specialised fatboy, you can run them down to the kevlar belt and they're still an utter ars* to puncture. That said i did have a really sharp flint go through one.

Yeah sorry I should've said I like to go fast and skinny :-) So I would probably pass on the larger tyres.

i also have a conti grand prix tyre on my front but they seem to have stopped making them frustratingly unless anyone knows of anything they do that's similar?

Tyres make such a big diff. Had X Lites on my Wilier for commuting, last night I replaced for nearly new Conti GPs I had lying around (was going to put on some Pro3s I had lying around but resisted) and it was a world of a difference. Felt like I had a new bike.

The X Lites had a lot of life left, but after time I realised I hated the compound and feel.

Continental Sport Contact are supposed to be fairly good

Never again will i uses Pro3s on the commuter, they are a nice tyre but they are not very puncture proof.

I've had Spesh Armadillo slicks for over five years. Awesome tyres for p******* resistance. Grip isn't great in the wet, but the newer compounds may have addressed this.
    FCN 2-4.

I used spesh nimbus on my old MTB before it got nicked. They are very good, considering I used them for off-road purposes too ;)

The sports contact or ultra are good but for best speed on 26" wheels try the ultra gatorskins http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/conticycle ... skin.shtml

at 26 x 1.2 these babies are fast as fook, you'll have all the roadies blinking as you nip past wooohahahaha

As you can probably guess I have these on my bike, well on several actually.
