Tyre clearance.

Hi,
I am coming to the end of a restoration and singlespeed conversion of an old Peugeot Elite road bike with a carbolite frame.
The only thing left to do was fit the wheels and tyres.
I opted for Michelin world tour tyres from CRC because they were cheap £5.99 and got good reviews.
I picked the 700 x 35 version for commuting because I read somwhere that the more rubber on the road the better and also more comfortable.
I tried to fit the tyres and the front is ok but the rear when pumped up is rubbing on the chainstays and the small round piece of metal near the BB shell that holds the chain stays
together.
I'm now thinking that there must be a maximum tyre width on this bike with it being a racer.
I have only ever had MTBs

Could anyone please offer any help and advice.
All comments would be much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Supergunn.

Yes that's common for many roadbikes to have a tight fit for tyres. Each is a little different so you'll have to make a guess as to the max that will fit or find another tyre to mount for measuring purposes. Also if one mfr. says the tyre is 28mm wide, it will most likely be slightly different from anothers labeled the same width.
