Bike Carriage

Any opinions about the best roof mounted cycle carriers? I have read some horror stories about carbon forks breaking, when using fork clamping carriers. I am thinking of using a bike carrier that clamps hold of the down-tube. I would protect the frame from scratches by the use of pipe lagging. I have one steel and one titanium framed bike.

Consider that a bike is designed to withstand an 80kg rider cornering at 50kph. Simplistically - an unladen 8kg bike is going to need to corner at 500kph to experience similar forces!

Buy a Thule with fork mounts. IME you're far more likely to 'crimp' a downtube with over-judicious use of a downtube clamp than you'll do with a fork mount.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
