What MTB tyres for a trip to France in two weeks - 70% road?

Hi,

9 of us are off to France in 10 days for a cycle up the Seine valley in France. 2 days up and 2 days back, sometimes up to 60 miles a day. We are all going on mountain bikes but maybe up to 70% will be on the roads.

I was planning to put plenty of air in my current tyres - Specialized Captains - but am now considering buying some new tyres for the trip and am looking for suggestions. Sould I have something more road-biased and if so, what?

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Snelly

I rode the Trans Pennine Trail (215 miles) on my hardtail MTB, and coz a lot of the route was either road, path or old railway lines, I used Continental Travel Contact tyres.
They are slick in the centre, with some knobbles on the edges, which helped when we hit the off road parts of the Pennines.

They're still on it now, and I ride everywhere and on all surfaces with them.

Main advantage is that when your on the road, you don't get the drag like you do on knobbly tyres.

    Cheers

Try Schwalbe Land Cruisers. I have had them on my mtb for the last few years and have just replaced them. Similar in principal to those suggested by CumbrianMan. They have good puncture resistance too!
