See through white jerseys

I bought a couple of white jerseys over the internet recently and have been quite surprised that they're both quite transparent. It makes me a bit uncomfortable to have bib straps and nipples visible through a jersey and would prefer that they were completely opaque.

The offending jerseys are made by Castelli and Giordana so it makes me wonder if this is normal for completely white jerseys? Can anyone recommend a white short sleeve jersey that isn't see through?

Cheers.

it's normal, most ss jerseys are made to be light/cool, so they're quite thin with an open weave, hence the see-through effect, especially with the really lightweight ones

you could try to find a wool one, it might be a bit more opaque

also, ask prendas how see-through this one is...

best to wear a polypro t shirt underneath then. many elite riders do this even on the hot hot days. i'm not sure why as it didn't work for me at all.

the rahpa one actaully warns you to use sunscreen under your jersey. good advice but to me it defeats the purpose of a light jersey. nothing makes me sweat my bodyweight as sunscreen. usually it's my fault for applying it liberally 5 minutes before i set off but it stops me from sweating and cooling myself adequatly. experieince tell me my HR is 7-10 beats higher then i can't cool myself. when it's really hot i sometimes just put sunscreen on my upper arms and thighs and bake everywhere else.

Great replies thanks guys. Afraid I'm not female so there's nothing beneath my jersey worth seeing.

Hadn't considered using a baselayer in hot weather before but there seem to be quite a few products designed for this role so will grab one and see how it goes. That way my new jerseys won't just be reduced to use on the turbo. Will be interesting to see how it copes with the sheer volume of my extremely salty sweat as salt residue on my jersey is one of the reasons switching to white jerseys in the first place.

Always wear an undervest, even on hot days, since it will provide additional protection if you crash.
  • under armour heat gear sleeveless should sort you out, dries in seconds and nothing to it, but enough to help conceal all but the most 7.62 bullet-esque type nipples.

Excellent thanks. The sleeveless under armour shirt is looking pretty good at around £16, I'll grab a couple at that price. Could definitely use the extra crash protection with my bike handling skills.

I always wear a base layer in this country. Only abroad is it hot enough to go without.

I did see a photo of Sciandris back after a tour - and he's got tan lines on it in the shape of his bib shorts. Very odd to see !
