Hired a Talon 1 from Swinnertons on Sunday and did Follow The Dog and The Monkey Trail. Great fun 
Looking to buy and tempted by the Talon 0 - very good write up from WMB.
They question the fork - Tora 100mm Air - but that's the '09 model. Noticed it's the same spec. on the '10 bike - but has the fork improved or should I ask the LBS to upgrade it? - if not to a different fork, then at least to the 120mm version which the review says the frame is quite capable of taking?
Please bear in mind that at the moment I'm not working but have scrimped and saved from odd-jobs I've done over the last year ( plus a bit of a tax refund after redundancy! ) so the bike ( retail £850 ) is about the max. I'm looking to lay out being realistic, however I could maybe go for a bit more if someone particularly recommends a bit of kit they think is worthy upgrading to.
Also looking to use the SingleSpeed to get a bit of extra cash if I can sell it or PX at the LBS.

If you rode it an liked it, then I'd just get it and ride it. Think about the fork if it lets you down. It shouldn't - is a good fork.0

I'm really new to this so please let me know if I'm wrong but you can get the giant 2009 XTC 1 for the same price as the new Talon 0, I think the spec is better but stand to be corrected.

Yep, the XTC is much better specced - but is a racier bike geometry wise.0

What exactly is meant by Race Geometry v something less racey like a Kona frame?0

Steeper angles, longer top tube to get your weight right forward - quicker steering.0

Cheers for that Supersonic - sounds like a good plan - other options are Rockhopper and even possibly Merida Matts 700-D. I'm sticking with these brands as that's what my LBS stock. Of the 3 - any particular preference / recommendation - and why? Cheers.The artist formerly known as "HALO"
