Why ride a hardtail?

Just a sort of Devils advocate question but why?
Full suss is more comforatble, more forgiving and only a bit heavier. On flip side HT are less expensive to run (ie bearings / bushings) and fitted with a suspenison post almost as forgiving on smaller bumps.
So what do others think?
My Bikes Trance FS ()2006) & Van Nic HT (with USE shokpost)---like them both but do I really need both??? :?
Try searching some recent posts, this is asked all the time.

On the flip side..
Why ride a FS.
Disconnects the rider from the trail, takes away an element of skill, generally heavier, more expensive, not as fun.
