Has anyone ridden it this year yet?

It was getting fairly cut up at the end of last year and was wondering if it had been repaired/maintained.

i like riding it because its a bit different, more of an xc slog but a rewarding trail :)

I rode it last weekend, it's got a good few puddles on it, but nothing that would swallow a wheel, just watch the woodwork, it's got slippier ! ..think thats coz most lakes traffic now goes off piste of to the Altura trail.

  • ooohh bugger, lol. Lost it on the boardwalk there last time and fractured my wrist/snaped a brake lever :(

Nice to know its quiet though, Altura trail will become a bit of a motorway over summer I think!

We rode it all a few weeks ago but it was very dry when we did. Didnt really rate it when there is so much accessible "proper" mountain biking to be had nearby. The friends we took who had never mtb'd before loved it though. Boardwalk was no prob fo us, liked the roundabout one that was quite amusing!

Rode it one night last week and enjoyed it more than usual as it was bone dry. There is of course better stuff in the area but now and again a quick blast around the NF is fun.

Can't say there has been much maintenance done on it recently. The final downhill section was flooding quite badly through the winter.
  • Do the natural stuff in and around Grizedale, it's far far better than the North Face trail.

There's some brilliant gnarly descents and wonderful single track.

Rode it on Sunday, living up the road from you in Cleveleys, I consider it my local trail!!!

I know it back to front now and can fly round it in a little over an hour, I enjoy it every time i go because I can go at it full pelt.

There are a few rock step ups on the first climb which have become slightly bigger and more technical, the rest is as it was this time last year. I always find it a handy trail to do if i`m short of time.

And for sure there are some awesome bridalways running through Grizedale and over to Claiffe a combo of these and the North face makes for a cracking ride.
  • Pointeth moi in the directions of hese eu'natural trails?

No problem, a GPS is definitely a worthy investment.

A good place to start would be 'Grandad, Dad and The Dentist', and 'Lawsons Park' as these both divert off the NF trail.

Grandad, Dad and Dentist: Complete first 2 sections of North Face, after the longish fireroad climb you come to a signpost marked Parkamoor to the left. Follow singletrack along to look over Coniston lake. Drop down to a house, Left again after the short sharp climb and follow track all the way back down to Satterthwaite. This descent has almost everything :)

Lawson Parks, again after the first 2 sections of NF, about 1 mile past the Parkamoor sign at the top of the next climb, there is a small bridleway sign going off left again into the trees. This drops you down to Coniston Lake. Check the maps for other ways back into the forest from there and rejoin the NF
  • or go down into parkmoor awesome decent but a mare getting up the road to go towards ickenthwaite but agian you get another good blast downhill with some nice jumps if you hit at speed :D

Also called Nurse,Doctor and Dentist or Mum,Dad and Dentist.
I would add Breasty Haw,Red Mist and the Hole in the wall. Also heard good things about the Parkamoor descent but haven't tried it yet.
  • I did a god 30 miler the other week, I've got the gpx file for it, if anyone wants it PM me.

Made my wife really concerned by telling I her I hadn't just been biking. I showed her Breasty Haw on the map and she spat her drink out!

There's a good 10 mile route in the Lake District Mountain Biking Book, I did it the other week and was amazed at how much better it was than the NFT. I think I've got the route card scanned onto my PC I'll email it if you like.

Went yesterday and it seemed in pretty good nick. Only time I came off the boardwalks was when I misjudged it. Absolutely loved it as it was the first time I've been mountain biking. Took me and a mate about 4 hours, but we were on incredibly shitty bikes (I ride a full sus that I bought off another mate for £30 :p).
