XX mix chainring

Have seen new dynaglide article and xx stuff and finally planning move to try two front rings.
issue is, using sheldon brown's calculator, I could still get up leith hill and any hill past about 60km mark on SDW with a 26T, but often find my 44T short on my training route, so would not want to go lower: a 26.45 would be ideal, or could struggle with 26.42, but not 26.39.
I have read the blurb of 13 pick up points, etc on sram site, however, I have never thought I needed more than two pick-up points on XTR, so surely there must be a way to get 26.42 or even 26.45 on xx or similar 26.46 on shimano.
Is this possible, with just even one pick-up point (need some lowest common denominator maths beyond my ability) or is XX and dynaglide the greatest marketing trick yet: getting us all to upgrade front, rear derailleurs as well as cassette and chain, and get us all to but two cranks or at least a second spider to boot!

They both just offer options - nothing new or particularly innovative about any of this.
Having said that the 36t may be useful out back, and a wider range front mech.
You would not be able to use 45/26 chainrings, too far a gap. 16 tooth gap is the quoted max with some mechs.
Have a look at after market rings that fit what you want.0 -
thanks supersonic, was not aware of 16 tooth limit, but that should mean 26.42 workable? good call as well, will also see what rotor or other will allow maxs-works stumpy FSR, sl2 tarmac, siglespeed rockhopper and a bog standard allez0

Check the specs of the mechs, but I think the xx allows a 16t. Also check max teeth too.
Often they work anyway lol, but many combos out there, and some work better than others.0 -
silly question as well, has sram gone down the simple bottom bracket route of shimano (allen key and a BB spanner) or is it still the pig that was removing a diabolous crankset?s-works stumpy FSR, sl2 tarmac, siglespeed rockhopper and a bog standard allez0

Not sure lol.
Check out the SRAM service guide. I would imagine it is the same as the Truvativ stuff.0 -
Sorry, meant turativ holz... Or whatever it was called, diabolus is raceface... Doh!
It appears from xx you can buy a whole new spider and rings and just bolt it in: downs or marathon: 26.39, normal: 28.42, speed freak: 30.45, still a bit of a pita thos-works stumpy FSR, sl2 tarmac, siglespeed rockhopper and a bog standard allez0
