Hailstones in May! Made me think base layers

Not long back from a 30k training ride. In that short time I experienced a little sun, dark cloud, rain then hail. Sadly, I wasn't suitably dressed so I was cold and wet when I got home
But it did make me think now is the time to get some cheap base layers for later this year. Currently I have some Craft and some Descent base layers and like them both. Anyone know where there might be a sale/clearance on some quality brands so I can get more?
I'm a small/medium dependant on what I'm buying.

I got 2 base layers from Aldis last thursday special, which are very good at keeping me warm in the coldest weather over winter. Wore one this morning as it's still pretty nippy out there atm.
The special they've got on this thursday doesn't include the base layer this time though Maybe worth going into your local Aldi and seeing if theyve got any left over from last time?live long, eat biscuit0 -
They hurt like buggery this afternoon. Rain on bare legs I can handle, rain on girls wearing t-shirts makes getting caught in a sudden shower interesting Hailstones on bare legs isn't playing ballI've added a signature to prove it is still possible.0

I got caught in the hail on top of the North Yorks Moors yesterday! Ouch!!!!
Not cheap, but I would definitely recommend an Icebreaker 150 Atlas baselayer. I wore this yesterday under a short sleeve jersey and armwarmers. Gillet over the top. Must have been only 5c to 7c for the whole time we were out but I wasn't cold. It's very strange but I only dispense with the same baselayer when the temperature is nearly 20c as it helps keep you cool.0 -
agree with the Aldi base layers, good value for money, altho i would only buy them and their socks, (personal choice)
i too got caught in hail yesterday, wasn't the fact it felt like pins being stuck in my legs that alarmed me, i couldn't look up to see where i was going......bloody frightening!0 -
i've several under armour and nike pro tops which are skin tight but warm enough when it's cold if you layer up appropriately. unless it's baking hot (rarely) i don't do much training of any kind without atleast a sleeveless base layer on these days, just kind of got in the habit and don't feel right without it (not that i need a sports bra!?).
no hail in sunny cornwall this weekend but lots of frickin headwind.0 -
there are some discounted ones here at the moment, look in the 7 day deals bit...
