They will look crap very quickly and will certainly lose that sparkle on the first ride. Even the white bar tape on my road bike quickly discoloured.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

They look great with matching white pedals but a few rides in they dont look too great, its just shows how dirty your black grips are, you just cant see the dirt

they get dirty fairly quickly. doesn't stop me buying them- they stay white enough for the desired effect long enough for me, and a new set is a birthday present to myself each year at the end of the winter. the previous set are usually brown by then though! If you get superstars with white collars then they're all you can see when your hands are on the bars anyway!

  • ive got white DMR ones, and everytime i can be bothered to clean my bike i take em off and give em a quick scrub with soap and a toothbrush (im abit of a pedantic cleaner).
they do look good when they are clean, but not amazing when they arent. id still get them again though, as they go with the rest of my white bits and bobs :D

Had white. Looked great when new. Looked shite after 1 ride. Now I have gone back to black!

I use white grips and had the same set on for about 4 months now true they don't look like new and shiny, but then I ride a mountain bike down hills in all weather and have fun doing it.

The dirtyness of my grips has never really factored into it, unless it's a race then of course new grips ever race :-D
    I use all 9 inches.

My spank ones ended up minging.
  • I used the spank ones as well. they look great at first but last for about a week before they're minging and brown :-)

They will be slightly brown by the time you've finished putting them on the bike.

And then they just get worse and worse.. :D

They'll go manky. You can clean them with cleaners and a good stiff brush but why bother?

When my dirty brown ones die I wont be getting new white ones.

i think i will do the same. once these grips have worn out, or maybe just as a treat when i swap frames ill go to graphite Peaty grips or superstar ones, as these both seem to get awesome reviews. white looks good, but does need cleaning, so if i bother to change i wont go back. not quite (but only just not) worth the hassle

Someone said they had the Lizard Skin Peaty grips in white and Swarfega brought them up nicely ...... but I did go for the grey ones in the end .....

A bit of Cif cream cleaner on a cloth then give them a wipe over cleans them up fairly well. Obviously the more you do this the easier it is.

I like the look of white grips and white pedals and will probably replace the current white ones with new white ones when they're done.

I've got bruight pink ones:) (makes finding the bike easier after crashing)

They get dirty pretty quickly, but liberal use of muc-off soon sorts that out.

white grips and white saddles, as what appears to be the trend on Specializd bikes, are a stupid idea.

in the end, it they get drity, it isn;t the end of the world other than not looking spanking new.
  • Half the fun of mtbing is leaving the bike dirty. White looks better all dirty!
  • Was considering getting some white Superstar grips to PIMP it and kinda individualise it but after reading this I dunno

Do it! Just wait for the mud to drop a bit, then why the hell not? They'll be brown by this time next year, but then they'd be worn out anyway and you can buy some new ones. That's how I do it, anyway!
