fitting 9 speed 53 tooth triple road crankset to 28"/700c touring bike.
I have an old 28"/700c touring/trekking bike with 28" wheels,shimano xt 9 speed cassette,
shimano xt 9 speed 48 tooth triple crankset, shimano xt 9 speed rapidfire shifters,
shimano xt 9 speed front mech, shimano xt 9 speed chain and shimano xt 9 speed rear mech.I would like to fit a shimano ultegra 9 speed 53 tooth triple road crank to this bike.
can I simply swap out the shimano xt 9 speed 48 tooth triple crankset for the shimano ultegra 9 speed 53 tooth triple road crank, change the chain for a new shimano xt 9 speed chain because the existing one would be too short and of course relay the shift cable.
would I be able to use the
shimano xt 9 speed cassette, shimano xt 9 speed rapidfire shifters,
shimano xt 9 speed front mech, shimano xt 9 speed chain and shimano xt 9 speed rear mech in conjunction with the shimano ultegra 9 speed 53 tooth triple road crank please.
or would I need to change the shifter, cassette, front and rear mech to ultegra as well please.

The front mech may not take well to the 53t - most MTB ones are 48t maximum.0

XT chainset will have 4 bolts and Ultegra chanring will have 5 holes - won't work.
You need an MTB style chainring.
All the shifters etc should be fine thoughroad0 -
XT chainset will have 4 bolts
Does that not depend on its age? I had an old Shimano MTB crank with 5 arms.
More pressing is the front mech - if an MTB one won't take more than 48t & needs to be changed for a road mech, you will need a different shifter as I understand the cable pull is different between road & MTB front mechs.
Would it not be easier to change the cassette?

Yes, a road front mech uses a different cable pull.
The MTB mech may work, to a fashion, with 53t.
And true about the XT, many were 5 bolt, though check BCD.0
