Will the 60mm valve stick out far enough to get a track pump on??

Expect so. Rim is measured from the top of the rim, whilst the valve starts from within the rim.

    i.e. FP60's (58mm rim) take a 41mm valve

A 30 mm extendet is enough. I use 30 mm extenders on vittoria evo corsas (which come with a 41 mm removable valve core ( gives me a 71 mm valve)

I use zipp 303 extenders (33mm) on continental giro & vittoria rally tubs which have a 30 mm non removable valve. Gives me a valve stem of 63mm. Both are long enough for gigantex 50mm rims

Ok,conflict of opinion it seems. Could go with the valve extensions -just never used them before. Any do's and don'ts?

I use 60mm valve innertubes with my Mavic Cosmic Carbones (50mm) and the valve is JUST long enough to securely attach my track pump.

go longer cuz if the gasket is worn on your pump it might not provide a good enuf seal and you'll have difficulty pumping.

it's a bit more weight and a bit less esthetic but what the heck. eventaully the longer ones will puncture anyway

    what rims are you running?

They sound sweet, I've been interested in same for a year or so.

Can you do me a favour and weigh the front and rear wheels without skewers and cassette if possible? I've heard them to be heavy but bombproof in true Shimano style, who refuse to compromise braking or put a rider weight limit on things.

It's always been between these, the Reynolds Assault and the Hed C2 40 - don't let the name fool you, the Hed C2 40s are actaully a 45mm rim.

    Cheers

I found this out last week.

50mm Cosmics, with 60mm valve tubes in. I can pump up the tyres with my track pump at home (pretty new), I didn't have time to get them up to pressure at home as I had to get to the club to sign on for a TT. Went to pump up fully at the club and the pump adaptor just kept popping off.

I'm looking at getting 80mm now as a result. I've got valve extenders at home, but it seems to be more difficult getting tubes with detachable valve cores than it does getting tubes with 80mm valves!

Any recommendations for tubes with 80mm valves? I've seen Vredestein, Bontrager and Schwalbe do them.

Another example of a basic nouse failure.... Buying wheels without thinking abou thow you are going to inflate tyres on them ranks as EPIC failure. Almost as bad as gluing tubs with Pritt Stick.

Just go out and buy valve extenders and make sure you either get some insulation tape to go between them and your rims, failing the tape a set of ear plugs for yourself and every rider you plan to be in the vicinity of as the rattling will surely lead to justified abuse in your direction.

What it is to be perfect eh.

I'm not sure anyone on here has failed! More a case of asking questions of what works best. I've tried a few combinations of 60mm valves, 40mm valves with extensions, all have worked fine, doesn't mean to say there isn't a better option. I've had one occasion where I couldn't use a track pump - I thought it would be fine as I can get them to pump up fine at home!
