moving BC categories

Hi all

I'm not racing yet, but just trying to get my head round how moving up a category works. Firstly, I assume the season runs with the calendar year, is that right?

Am I right in thinking that you move up a category as soon as you've got the required number of points?

I'm looking at the 4th/3rd/2nd regional rankings for 2009 on the BC website and getting thoroughly confused. There are riders listed in 4th cat, all with less than 10 points - this makes sense as riders with more than 10 would have gone up to 3rd cat. But why are there riders listed in 2nd cat with just 1 or points? Surely they would have been moved down to 3rd cat?

Sorry for asking numpty questions, I just can't get my head round it.

Cheers!

I assume that's their points for this season after starting afresh with 0 points? To stay at second cat for next season they will need to get the required number of points, if they stayed on 1 point then they'll be down to 3rd cat.

    Right again

Because when you move up a category, your points go back to zero.
