Rockshox Warranty claim issues

Took my bike to the LBS where I bought my bike from - with RS Reba SL Dual Air forks (11months old). On the RS website it said that warranty claims can be made up to 2 years after purchase. I therefore took my bike to the shop for a warranty claim due to oil leaking in to the lowers resulting in loss of travel and lockout not working properley.
However the shop owner was insure whether I get them fixed as they hadnt been serviced within 6 months. I didnt realise they had to be for a warranty claim? He therefore sent them off hoping for the best.
Has anyone had any similar issues and resulting in a non warranty claim?
Thanks

Stumpy Jons? If so, I read it couple of weeks back, that was one of the catalysts for me taking it in.
Or is there a FAQ on warranty claims?Giant XTC SE 2006

I just ahd to sort mine again  At some point they're going off to TFTuned for a proper fix (with their parts rather than RS bits). It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result0
