Don't get me wrong I like em but... Has anyone figured out a sneaky way to make those repacement metalic bits last longer and stop the screws from getting ground down through wear and tear?. They need changing far too quickly as far as I'm concerned - Kerching!

Which Speedplay pedals have you got? I have the X2 (road) pedals and I still have the same cleats I put on 3 years ago. They still have the original screws in and they have lasted really well. The only thing I've done is spray the whole cleat with silicone spray from time to time.
As well as providing lubrication, I think it probably stops the grit from sticking and grinding down the screws and working parts.

I am looking to replace my keo pedals with the x2 . Is it a worthwhile changeover . Just looking for feedback

    the cleat setup looks fiddly

I use zero's and yeh the cafe stop covers are a good idea. I find also if you clean the screw heads regularly it helps as the grit grinds them down otherwise. For me they're great pedals as the double sided nature makes it easier to 'clip in' if you have to stop uphill.

I've got the zero's...that's amazing how have they now worn down in 3 years. Do you cycle regularly? I must admit I'm a lazy bugger, don't clean em and don't wear the cleat covers. Perhaps that's wear I should start first

I tried the zeros but couldn't get on with them clipping in. They need quite a bit of force and I only weigh 68kg so was struggling.

Swapped 'em out for KEO carbons.

I ride most days- either commuting, training or just for fun. I'm quite amazed by the wear I've got out of them. Its worth saying, however, when I first got them, I really had to push hard on the pedals to engage the cleats. Over time, however this got much better.
I like the way that the pedals are fully serviceable. They have been stripped down and re-greased on a few occasions. I also don't wear cleat covers but try not to walk in them too much.
  • Have you tried applying a strip of duct (duck!) tape to the outer metal face?

Did you read the instructions when you bought them?

It says to tighten them up and if you can't engage slacken the screws by 1/4 turn. I did this and applied dry lube like the instructions also said to do and mine worked from then on. I've been using them now since august (for commuting as well as leisure riding) and apart from applying a bit of lube every now and again I haven't had a single clipping in struggle or had to un do them/ tighten them up.

I weight just over 70kg so not much more than you.

    Cheers Fungus.

I read the destructions page to page, back to back and even the foreign bits! Just couldn't get on with them... maybe those few kg make all the difference?

I sold them to a very happy customer on here so it all came out of the wash okay!
