I am just after a bit of advice, i have decided to buy a road bike to use for commuting (at the minute i am using my mountain bike) and the occasional weekend ride and have the C2W scheme at work i think i have got narrowed my choice down to either the trek or cannondale but really cant decide which one to go for.

I was just wondering what people on here think and also if the above bikes i have chosen are fine for commuting

I test rode the Cannondale CAAD9 Ultegra on Sunday, it doesn't look much to look at as its in matt finish....

I'm hung up on this and the Trek 2.5 Ultegra so in a similar boat to you mate at the present time.

Both bikes have different geometery, the CAAD9 is full out racing, whilst the Trek 2 series is a little more sportive and a lot more upright at the front end.

If you take a look at the Bike Radar review on the 2.5, you will notice they mention the front end is too high for racing....so depends on what you want it for, i had the 1.5 for 18 months and was doing 65 mile rides on it without any comfort issues, it was a lovely comfortable bike and this is why i 'may' go for the 2.5 over the CAAD9...
  • Cheers for the reply Soni initially i am just going to be commuting but i do plan on using it at weekends in the future,

I went with the Ultegra equipped 1.9 which is last years 2.5...partly due to the relative comfort of the front end,,,you still have the 3 spacers to adjust bar/stem height. Don't know about racing but it doesn't seem that slow to me?

The CAAD9 has a lot of pedigree to it's name.
It's a race frame as the others have said.

IThe CAAD9 very upgradable too if you wish to consider that at some point and I also think it's resale value would be greater should you wish to part with it.

But perhaps (if possible) you can ride both bikes and see what suits you best. After all it's the enjoyment/comfort factor that is perhaps the most signicficant factor in your describe usage.

Had exactly the same dilemma. I knew the Cannondale's frame was superior, but as i wasn't looking for a racer, the geometry of the Trek did it for me!

I would definitely test ride the bikes before you buy though.

I would go for the cannondale because you can upgrade the frame in the future but you have to go with the one you feel most comfortable on
