We're going to the Peaks next week, and I'm foolishly banking on blistering sunshine every day and dry dusty trails. Just wondering how 2.35" SB8s compare with other common trail tyres, Nevegals/High Rollers/Captains etc.

Wider than 2.1" Nevegal or 2.35" High Roller. Narrower than a 2.35" Nevegal? It'll be on the Mojo so I'm a bit paranoid about clearance, I've seen 2.35" Nevs that have rubbed through the frames.

Failing that I'm pondering some 2.25" Maxxis Ardents.

Not sure about the Small Blocks but those Ardents are wider than High Rollers

Yeah, only my a couple of mm though isn't it? I've heard reviews mentioning them being very close.

I'm not too worried, the 2.35" Nevegals are a bit too tight, but then they are absolute monsters compared to the rest there.

Pretty sure they are very similar to 2.35 Nevagals, sorry.

This is just from memory though when I saw them on the hire bikes at Glentress. Someone that runs them will be able to confirm whether or not my memory is correct

small blocks have come up large for size against every tyre I've seen them compared to.
Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.

I'd say it's not quite dry enough for 8s yet here, it's dry but not bone and dust bowl and we're getting some nice regular downpours so it's keeping things the dryish side of nice and firm. Something that lightly digs in and grips a little will do you no harm, I reckon. I've never used Ardents but looking at the tread pattern their not a million miles away from what I've tried out this dry spell and i'd rather be 'over-tyred' then 'under' simply because of the changeable nature of the weather here.

Another month of weather like we've been having and it'd be a different story.

Yeah, maybe :) I'll be getting dropped off in the middle of Hope on my bike most days, so expected to be trundling along quite a lot of road miles, which is why I was pondering something slicker.

I've got a newish 2.1" DTC Nevegal on there at the mo, could just have a pair of those which might be a middle ground.

That's a pretty safe bet actually.

I can't comment on how they compare with the others, but I can tell you they're 60mm wide when mounted on 19mm rims, which is spot-on 2.35" (and 60mm bead to outside edge).

Ah cheers, perfect, I'll have a measure tonight. They'd have been mounted on 19mm Stans 355s.

My 2.2 Conti Mountain Kings are as wide as my mates 2.1 SB8's & both are as wide as my old 1.95 Tiogas.None of which I would wide though. :?

I'll be getting 2.3 SB8's for mine though. Fed up with narrow tyres on my HT. Great for speed, not great for control or absorbing the bumps!

i haven't measured but my SB8 2.35 on the rear looks bigger than the high roller 2.35 on the front.
