Trouble getting back wheel off

Yesterday on removing the two bikes from the car the cranks had got caught up and I had to remove the rear wheel to get them untangled, anyway it took quite a lot of force after removing the quick release to get the back wheel out, is this normal? I noticed a couple of paint scratch marks at both ends wher the wheel goes n, I'm worried I have weakened the socket, am I just over-reacting?

Sometimes they can be quite stiff. Change into the smallest rear cog first, and watch the disk and rear mech as you remove it.
