Snapped Crank, Warranty Claim Help (?)

Hi All,

Well, damn and blast, I've managed to snap one of my cranks :x

It's a Race Face Turbine LP, several years old, but nonetheless covered by the Race Face lifetime warranty.

However, to make a warranty claim I need proof of purchase... and this is where I have a problem: after 6 or 7 years I no longer have the receipt

I'm 99% pretty sure I bought them from either Wiggle, CRC or Evans as these are the places I go to almost 100% of the time.

So here's my challenge to the good people of BR:
- What can I do?
- Any ideas ?
- Or am I totally stuffed regarding making a warranty claim?

Cheers,
S

I would actually contact RaceFace about this - will be your best bet.

    Contact RaceFace.

Chances are if you had a traditional receipt from a shop it would have fully faded after 6-7years anyway.

    Ah, should've mentioned...

I e-mailed Race Face, who said they can do nothing without proof of purchase...

CORRECTION: I contacted Silverfish, the UK importer... have now e-mailed RaceFace directly, we'll see what they say...

Ah well. As this is in addition to your rights, they have you over a barrel with the terms.
  • Hmmmm. Kinda figured.

Am going to get back to them regarding whether a Bank statement would be sufficient, or whether they specifically need the actual receipt... I can probably find an entry on my statement... although if they need to get the retailer involved, it all gets complicated...

From a legal perspective, I think SS is right. Personally, I see no point in offering a lifetime warranty if its not going to be honoured. It boils my piss when companies do this. I appreciate that if you dont have a receipt you may not be the first owner, but if a product has a lifetime warranty, what does it matter if it is not still owned by the original purchaser? Its just a get out clause imo.

Some companies are good in all fairness, Mac Tools and Snap On have replaced stuff for me without receipt, even Halfords did when a mate broke one of there 'Professional' sockets.

Do you have any packaging left? I know it's unlikely, but they might accept that as proof of purchase. Try contacting the shop where you bought it and ask their advice.

As a last resort, just be nice and say how upset you are at breaking your beloved RaceFace crank. Tell them you are really sorry, but 7 years is a long time and realistically even the most careful person would most likely have mislaid it. Mention that you have spoken to others on the forum and they have all had stuff replaced without the receipt. In the name of good will and belief in their product can they send you a nice and shiny brand new one.

    Worth a try.

I wrote to Sigma Sport in Germany about my light not working a few months ago, didn't even mention anything about replacing it, and they simply said return it and we will send you a new one. The warranty had run out about two years previously. Now that's what I call customer service!
You mean what we thought they thought we think and thought they thought. We think? - Patrick
  • I have e-mailed Race Face Canada, as per hoodlum-z suggestion with a grovelling tale... we'll see what their response is...
