It will make a difference if the current cables are knackered I don't change my cables till i notice a change in their performance but I replace with gore cables, they aren't cheap but are excellent quality and long lasting

Only because they will be a bit smoother than the ones you're taking off. Then a year or two done the road whatever you replace them with will be smoother simply because they are newer. Just like the last ones. If you're thinking you're going to experience a REVOLUTION IN SHIFTING, I think you'll be disappointed.

No I know they won't make a massive difference but trying to find out if it's a waste of money or not??!?
And also which cables people recommend,

Oh and why I think about it how often should I look at changing the cables? The bike is about 18 months old and has done over 2000 miles I would have said......

You don't need to change your cables till they need changing, so life span go differ for different conditions you ride them in. Once you notice a significant difference in the changing or gears start skipping it will be time for new cables

You might notice an improvement with some like Nokons or Alligator ilinks but probably not stock Dura Ace

Ok cool cool that's sort of what I had thought anyway, changing isn't as smooth as it was so il try adjusting the set up first see if that improves it again as it was very slick......

  • i replaced my worn out OEM cables with gore professional cables and would recomend them, especially if you ride in all weather.

shifting with these on is now as smooth as smoothy mcsmootherson, although a new PC1070 chain helps with that also, lovely.

i adjusted my previous rear cable until it broke 15 miles from home and left me stuck in 39-11 most of the way home, also getting the lump on the end of the cable stuck in the shifter, which was an absolute ba$tard to remove i can assure you.
