After trying out some Truvativ Holzfeller World Cup Riser Bars on a friend's bike yesterday I was amazed at the difference they made to the feel of the bike and have decided to change the stock narrower bars on my Specialized Rockhopper 08.

I am considering getting these bars but am also wondering at the alternatives - I would spend up to £100 on the right ones. I like the idea about carbon but am not sure about the longevity of it. I also haven't seen and carbon bars in that width. Lightweight would be nice but the biggest factor is the feel.

I mainly do XC riding in the Peak district.

Well the bars might've not been the only reason the bike felt different, bare that in mind. And because not all of us know every detail about every single part in the world, what length are they?

And you can get carbon bars for £50, so if you would prefer aluminium then you probably won't have to spend anywhere near £100.

Also remember that the wider the bars, the more likely you will catch them on trees, but if your mate does all the same riding as you fine, then you shouldn't have any problems.

what length stem does he have ?
what stack height are his bars at?

if you have a lot of spacers under your stem you will need to swap these about to compensate a little for the rise otherwise you might find you are a little too upright.

BTW I bought some of the Holzfellers from Chain Reaction for under 30 quid - 700mm wide and 50mm rise -they have made a HUGE difference.
