Looking for the best set of wheels for around £500.

Initially i will be putting them on my allez. But I plan to buy a new bike at the end of the season and then swap the wheels over.

I like to do long hilly rides and also shorter faster TT type things.

I should add, I do most of my training around surrey hills/Richmond Park so i do have to contend with some pretty bad roads.

dura ace are great all rounders. There has been a seller recently on fleabay offering new 7850 CL's for £400. Merlin are also offering a great deal as mentioned earlier.

Another for Dura Ace 7850CL - I use them on the Surrey Hills and Richmond Park as well and they handle the awful surfaces well - They have a very smooth ride, fab for climbing and accelerate like a dream and thats comparing to my other Ultegra wheels - They should transform your Allez if it has stock wheels and they look great too - paid £470 for mine

I've been out all week on norfolks gently rolling coastal roads. Great fun and my da 7850 wheels have just munched up everything thrown at them. I've really appreciated just how great they are at hills and bad roads so would wholeheartedly recommend them to you. I've got mine paired up with vittoria open paves and the ride is just sublime.

The £425 eBay deal is a belter although I paid £450 at merlin, their 7850 prices seem to fluctuate a lot.

am classic sprint 350s, they look beautiful and lighter than the dura ace wheels
It's not the will to win that matters...everyone has that. It's the will to prepare to win that matters.

Hope this isn't bending the thread too much, but did you have any problems fitting the Pave tyres to the dura ace rims. I've read mixed reports on Wiggle from buyers some of whom had problems but didn't say which rims they were fitting the tyres to.
I had dreadful problems on my older Dura ace rims with Michelin Pro Race 3's and don't want to repeat the experience!
Could be an important consideration for folks considering new wheels if they have favourite tyres they want to stick with.

Got them on with my fingers alone. Followed the instructions that came with the tyres.

Found rubino pro3 easy too. Put those on with one hand almost.

Vittoria folding tyres are def the easiest I've fitted, obviously I can only speak for myself though. Apparently individual rims of the same type will behave differently.

    Sold out but here..

Maybe email him and see if he has any more coming up. They've been on a few times in the last couple of months.

I've got no experience of this seller just notice them when looking for other dura ace bits on ebay. His feedback seems ok though re the wheels.

It says 10 speed, but other sites say 8,9, 10 speed compatible. As I am putting them on my 9 speed Allez, will they fit?

Mavic Ksyrium SL...... Bomb proof :)
Dura Ace are good for climbing & accelerate fast, but freewheeling the Mavic are way better as I found at the weekend, cycling with a buddy who had a pair of Mavics on, he just left me when freewheeling down hills.
The Ksyriums are not that heavier than the DA........ 1485 grams for the mavics and they look the job.
