Hi, should brake ferrules have a plastic inner cos I have just got some Fibrax ones from CRC and they have plastic inners but they won`t fit over my Fibrax outer brake cable so I suspect they have sent me the wrong thing ? Am I right?

There is no need to use ferrules on brake cable outers, only on gear cables. In fact the cable won't generally fit into the caliper or the shifter with a ferrule on.

The ferrule is for where the cable outer is attached to the frame, these are what I ordered. http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=11235

its a sealing bit of rubber i think, its meant to go inside the outer cable.

The thing is what they sent looks more like this,

I think CRC don`t know the difference between gear ferrules and brake ferrules.

So you are saying the rubber bit goes inside the outer cable, i`ve never heard of that and it doesn`t look like it would fit?
I`m pretty sure they sent me gear ferrules, they look just like the ones in the picture..

there still sealed. either way there going to have a rubber bit inside to seal the cable from crap and water. does the ferrule fit over the outer cable at all? because if the rubber bit doesnt fit in a brake cable theres no chance of it going in a gear cable because there smaller

The ferrule fits loosely over the outer cable if I take the rubber inner out.
It fits nicely over a gear outer if I leave the rubber bit in.

well thats wierd, because gear cables are 4mm and brake cables are 5mm, so i cant see how it fits loosly over a brake cable and about right on a gear cable

Loosely on the brake outer if I remove the rubber, otherwise it won`t go on.
Snugly on the gear outer with the rubber in the ferrule..

okay now i dont understand, the bit of rubber sits on the outer edge of the ferrule? then i dont know because looking at the pics of the gear ferrules they sit in the hole at the end.

The rubber is inside the ferrule but it comes out. It doesn`t fit anyway I just tried it again, they`ve sent me the wrong ones.
