When will it arrive?

Anyone else experiencing long delays waiting for their new bike?
I ordered a Cannondale Synapse some 10 weeks ago. Apparently it arrived the next week but there was a hole/damage in the downtube so another was ordered. Was going to be 6 weeks, but am still waiting. Last week it was due this week. Now it's been delayed (volcano?) and should be at the shop next week.
I've bought it from a local bike shop - who have all the money up front. However, I've been comparing their story to the lead times on the Evans website and they match up. So I have to assume they're not messing me around but I am annoyed that they don't keep me informed - I have to phone them if I want an update.
It's not just me & my LBS though, my work colleagues boyfriend was waiting 6 months for his bike (£3.5k, can't recall the make, different LBS). In the end he had to settle on a different bike because he's entering an ironman and needs to get training on the bike he's going to use for that.
And another work colleague has had a Lappierre Zesty (£3.5k, a third LBS) on order since January with no idea if he's ever going to see it.
Two other colleagues have ordered £500 bikes (a fourth LBS!) and collected them within a few days. Bloody frustrating that for the high end bikes you are treated like a nobody but want a cheap bike and you can have it immediately!

Seems odd having to pay the full whack, I have only ever had to pay a deposit. I don't think I would be willing to pay for one upfront either, The only way I would consider it is if it was on a credit card. Small specialist shops have a nasty habit of folding and then you are chasing your money to get it back.

Cheap bikes are produced in greater numbers and quicker to turn around. Top end bikes are made in fewer numbers with greater care and with more exotic parts - hence the longer lead times. That said you would have hoped the manafacturers would have sufficiently geared up to meet demand. Whilst I have no stats to back it up I get the impression that there has been a recent upsurge in cycling and this has caught the manafacturers out.
If you search on the forum I think there was a thread about Cannondale have specific UK importer issues.
I had to wait c. 120 days from my Madone - delayed due to insufficient capacity in their paint shop. Fortunately for me this was over winter so did not miss too much riding.
I hope yours comes next week. (I am sure the wait will be worth it too).0 -

That's what chap in LBS shop said - manufacturers wound down thinking there was a recession but actually there was a bit of an upsurge and no-one is ready for it.

As said above, this import problem has been mentioned before in this thread

I've been waiting weeks for my CAAD9. Three or four I think. Only another 23 days until the estimated arrival date.
I was asked if I wanted to pay a deposit or the full whack when I ordered it. I chose just to pay for the full thing then and there. May as well just get it over and done with. At least the wait has given me time to buy some new bits and bobs for it. Wheels, tyres, bottle cages, bottles, bar tape, etc.
I'd advise you to make the most of the waiting time - seriously thinking of all the upgrades you will make. Hope you don't have to wait too much longer.0 -
Somehow feel better that others are waiting too - perhaps the LBS aren't taking me for a ride
Hopefully we'll all get them soon.My guide to navigating using the Garmin Edge 800
