I have £1900 to spend and looking for a 120mm - 140mm machine capable of handling pretty much everything i.e all day slogs, xc , singletrack, jumps, small drops, and the odd trail centre in Scotland (if im not asking too much)
I have not seen any reviews of the Meta but i have read the 09 reviews of said bikem which seemed to be good.
Any other options available?
ThankYouVeryMuch

Many bikes in this category - I would test some out if you can. The Marin range gets good reviews for this type of riding.0

09 Metas are really prone to cracking.0

i bought an 09 meta 5.5.3 and the frame cracked, but im getting a new 2010 frame under warrenty.
they are very good bikes. the 2010 frames shouldnt crack. they have changed the company who make them, so now they are stronger and better.commencal meta 5.5.30 -

Where abouts did it crack? I've got a crack in mine and just wondered if it is the same place.
Mine has cracked on the weld of the pivot point on the downtube pivot.

How about a Cube Stereo or a Cube AMS 125 (both with similar travel to the Meta)... I currently have a 2008 Meta but I've never quite felt that it fits me right... feels too short (lengthways) and relatively high... Probably just down to my peculiarly long arms though... ;-) I'm considering other bikes eg Trek EX8 and the two Cubes above - great deals around on 2010 models...Offroad: Canyon Nerve XC8 (2012)
Touring / Commuting: On-One Inbred (2011)(FCN9)

The two you mention.......errrrr no0 -
Ride them,
If i remember correctly the meta is a much slacker bike than the stumpy which for a 140 machinw is very steep like an XC machine. this would tip towards the MEta for where i live. But the stumpy i think would pedal all day better.
time to get testing mate0 -
I love my meta. Awesome ride and is the bike I expect to have for along time (finegrs crossed that no cracks appear!).
Having said that, as others have said, test ride as many as you can to make an informed decision and what feels right when you're on it.Think I need a bigger Garage.0 -

Anyway I'd be looking at a Zesty or Fuel EX, they both have excellent rear suspension platforms.
It's on the steepish side I think for a bike with 140mm of travel. Compress the front and it will pretty soon get steep, ie at 100mm a fairly standard 70.5. But certainly not unusual - saying that many are slackening them off further so they don't get too nervous under full compression and to help on the downs.
Of course a bike can be definred on more than just its travel.0
