Howdy,

I am going to treat myself to some summer training wheels...I currently have some Easton EA70s and am looking at eithere the Shamals or the Eurus.... Anyone had experience of either and will there be a big difference between the two?? As for as I can see the only difference is the colour and the carbon hub centre???

Cheers,
Lig.

    Hi,

Came across your thread as i'm now wheel "hunting" after parting with my 2009 Shamal Ultra (Titanium gun metal grey finish). Dare you ask why  did not match the colour of my race filly  I must be insane or krazy or both! considering the Shamals are totally awesome! I may live to regret it later, if I cannot find the same quality, durability, performance as the Shamals without forking out too much just to get black rims.

No experience of Eurus other than to hold it in my hands and compare the specs. My first and only experience was the Shamals, so can8t compare it any other wheels in the Campag family or any other brand, but what I can say is you can8t go wrong with the Shamals, period!!! Never needed truing ever eventho mine was low low miles. Had it been BLACK, she would have been a keeper. Strong, durable, light yet ultra stiff (no flex whatsoever for 70kg rider) especially when climbing, fast rolling on the flats. Insane fast cornering. Bomb proof!!!

Are you considering the 2010 Eurus vs Shamal? Clinchers only or 2 way fit?

What you get with Shamals over the Eurus -

 Shamals now come with USB (Ultra Smooth Ceramic) ball bearings, on a carbon hub with alu flanges. Eurus has alu hub with alu flanges. Stainless steel bearings not ceramic.

 Weight: Shamals now down to 1440g vs Eurus now 1500g (for 2way fit versions without skewers). We are talking what 2 packet of crisps

 Price difference: expect to dish out loads more on Shamals as they are only one notch below the Hyperons!

 Top of the medium profile status

Verdict: get the Shamals as it now comes with Ceramic bearings as standard if you can stretch your wallet or can justify it, otherwise Eurus will not be far behind and pocket the savings for an upgrade to Ceremics later on. You can get a kit for as little or as much as £100-£200 depends where you look. Then, again you got to ask yourself, is the Ceramic going to give me any advantage to the type of riding you are going to do are doing already i.e. training vs racing.

Either wheels, you can8t go wrong, period! All comes down to what you can afford and willing to fork out. Hope this helps. Happy riding!

p.s. let us know which you went for in the end and how's they are working out.
