just got a new best bike full dura ace group but its got 53 39 rings and i feel its just to big for me im more a spinner
my dilema is what do i get to replace it any one got a swap for a high level compact chainset
this one is brand new never been ridden, wife is not happy at the idea of me spending another 300 quid on a new chainset, i have a sram rival i can put on but to be honest im a snob and feel it has to be either sram red or dura ace compact any ideas
dont only ride a bike

What cassette sprockets are you using? It would be cheaper if you could get the gearing you want by changing that.

I have just gone through the drama of choosing a new compact chainset after my Easton EC90 died (the second one inside a year!).

I got the choices down to -

Fulcrum RRS - I didn't like the bearing setup, no decent seals on the outboard side, and reports of poor bearing life, plus the bearing are expensive (being the CULT ceramic ones).

Controltech Shield - It is okay, looks nice and all that, but play is taken up by installing washers between the frame and BB, and this becomes a pain, as it seemed to constantly require washers being put in or taken out as play developed when they were breaking in.

Dura-Ace 7900 - I just don't like the look, it really does not look right on my bike.

Tune Fastfoot Sixpack - A bit too noodley for my liking

FSA K-Force Light - Uses the MegaExo BB, and I have not had good experiences with those in the past, short life and creaky.

SRAM Red - I just couldn't have a SRAM chainset on my Dura Ace 7800 equipped bike.

Storck PowerArm - THM Clavicula - Zipp Vuma Quad - all just too expensive for even me to see value in.

Which left me with Rotor. They do the Agilis and 3D cranks with or without the Rotor Q-Rings. I liked the Agilis very much, low-ish Q factor, great looking and decent weight and stiffness, but they are bringing out a new one in June that addresses the issues with the axle being attached to the non-drive arm rather than the crankside, which can result in the odd issue if you or an LBS accidentaly try to undo the wrong bolt, as it opposite to virtually all other chainsets.

So the Rotor 3D it is, looks business like, and equipped with Stronglight C2 rings it is light, stiff, and unusual enough looking to attract a bit of attention. It uses a standard Shimano HTII bb or it's own SABB, and has adjustment to take up inconsistencies in frame size without the need for shims and washers.

Try just sticking a 12-27 cassette on for starters.
