Never tried the elixers but have tried juicy 3,5,7 and codes.

Have also tried the Hope M4 and Mini (both mono) and the tech M4.

The hopes beat the avids habds down for modulation and equivelant brakes have the same amount of power (but it is more usable on the hopes)

Thats just my experiances though, lots of people have different opinions

Avid Elixir's are great. However sometimes people have been unlucky with the factory bleed.

    Excellent stoppers.

Having had 3 sets of Avid Juicy(5s/Ultimates) and now using Hope Tech M4 i would say Hope. The Avids are excellent stoppers.....just unreliable.
  • Shimano.

Avids are to fiddly to set up the caliper perfectly, and are a pain to bleed.
Never been too fussed about hope brakes either... tired the M4's a while back and they were a bit wooden.

Hope every time just had my elixir r's on my brand new Trek Remedy 8 swapped for hope V2's at the cost of Trek UK.

Had three weeks of problems with the Avids and has put me right off the brand forever!!!

    Completely agree.

Found mine were a bit of a pain to set up right, having to add/remove spacers etc. But once they are done, they are set up really nicely.

As for bleeding, I did mine (front and rear) the other night in about 15mins, and that included re-reading the manual because I'd forgotten the order of things.

I guess it sucks that you need the avid bleed kit (yes, I know you can do a "ghetto" one), but once it's bought, it'll last for years and years.

Hope are overpriced imho, but they DO have the best customer support in the world, EvAr, and they do come in pretty colours.

Never tried Shimano so can't really say about them. Heard good things though.
