Mavic Shoes

Thinking of buying some better shoes for my race bike. Anyone bought or worn a pair of Mavics? Probably buy a 'mid range' pair.
Comparison of other brands would be appreciated
I know shoes are shoes at the end of the day and price's at the top of the range are steep. Is it worth it?

I'm sure Mavic's are good shoes pretty much throughout the price ranges. Just guessing that maybe a shoe that fits you would be of more concern than a "Brand Name".
A pair of low dollar shoes that feel great is a better investment than some high dollar pair that hurt your feet(but look great).Of course, that's just my opinion. I don't have any experience with Mavic's. I have however found that Diadora does the trick for me.0 -
Of course, I have been scuppered! Your right, the fit is the most important thing.
It is easy to be a victim of marketing I was just wondering if anyone had tried them?0 -

Haven't even tried a pair on. They are pretty new stuff here in the states and it's hard to find a shop where they have enough sizes, models and brands to get a real idea of what you might want. I mail order most of my shoes. I found that Diadora 46's were just right, so I stick with them. So there could be something better out there but it's a pain to ship shoes back and forth to a cataloger0 -
I bought a pair of the top of the range Adidas Adistar ones (bright red), which are identical to the Mavics. They are fantastic shoes for me, superbly comfortable, very light, stiff and really well ventilated which is important in Aussie summers. So far they appear pretty durable too, although I've done only a few thousand km in them in good weather.
Only advice is to take your cleats with you and see how they fit the sole plate in the position you will likely use them. These shoes have a very flat sole in both directions, lengthwise and across the shoe in particular. I use Look Keo carbon pedals and with the cleat fitted all the way to the inside of the range of adjustment (widest Q factor) they didn't sit flush on teh soles. A few seconds with the bench grinder on the cleats soon fixed that!! But worth checking.
If you had the cleats more in the middle of the sole should be no issue.
OItherwise they are superb. I've had Shimano, Carnac, and Diadora shoes, and these Adidas/Mavics are easily the best all round race shoe I've had.Open One+ BMC TE29 Seven 622SL On One Scandal Cervelo RS0 -
I have a pair of the "avenir" model, mid-range.
I chose these after trying numerous shoes from lots of differant companies and finding this model just seemed to hold my foot better than other brands and models. The ratchet closure was also important for me to have.
After having used them for a couple of months now I can say they are comfortable, showing no signs of wear and tear (I bought them in white and any marks have just wiped off) and I am very happy with them. I did a five hour epic in the Pyrénées a couple of weeks ago and had no problems.
I also have my cleats in the same position as wheelspinner, same cleats as well, but have just left the gap, it doesn't seem to be a problem but I don't have a bench grinder, or a bench for that matter to make the adjustment. Does anybody have any bench buying advice, carbon or wood? US or blue and yellow scandanavian brand?0 -
I too have a pair of the Avenir shoes in the Morrisons supermarket colourscheme.fairly broad fitting.done 2.5k miles without problems. I am size 9 in normal shoes and have the 44's.0
