Does anyone else find the PX model B's a bit on the flexy side?

I've got a pair of PX model B's, Wheelsmith 50mm Carbon tubs and a pair of Mavic krysrium equipes, but when i ride the PX wheels out of the saddle on climbs, there is a definite pinkig from the spokes... It sounds like the front, but it could be the rear and the spoke crossings...i dunno...

my gf has the same issue on hers....

before you ask, we are not porkers!!!! 74kg and 60kg respectively!!! - its not a major issue as they are just spare wheels, but are others finding this too?

The reason i ask is everyone raves about the model B's, but i'm not so sure they are faultless....good value yes.... lightish, yes....but not necessarily without faults...

I have Model C's as spare wheels. Compared to my primary wheels (Fulcrum Racing 1), they do feel a bit soft / flexy, especially when climbing out of the saddle. That's to be expected as the Fulcrums cost 4x more.

Tightening the spokes a bit (e.g. 1/4 round each) might be worth trying.

are these new wheels..? if so, the spokes will probably ping a bit until they are properly bedded in.

I've got a set of model Bs and I haven't noticed any excessive flex....if anything, I find the ride a little harsh, but they're only training wheels (and only £99) so I'm not complaining....

newish.... i got them in Dec 09 with my new TT bike, but i've carbon deep tubs for that, so 've used them for some club road races and a couple of early club TTs and training miles - probably ridden maybe 300/ 400 miles on them....so should have bedded in

yip they are only £99 and are just a set of training wheels, so it doesn't bother me too much... I'm just pointing out they are not faultless.....for those that might think they are epic wheels

I've got a pair and think the front is a bit on the flexy side.

Apart from that - pretty good wheels.

They do flex slightly. I noticed this when my rear brake pad had very little clearance.

No problems from mine which are over a year old and done a couple of thousand miles.

Mine are stiff and straight for me....64kgs.
No pinging like I got on my new American Classic wheels.
    I'm really pleased with them.
I guess it's like everything really....there's good and bad for everything you can buy.

I'm sure the wheels can be trued and made more taut for you.

  • I bought my second pair recently for £99 to use for next winter. I am 90Kgs, used my previous pair all through last autumn, winter and now used on my commuter. Never had any problem with flexing at all. In fact my Mavic Aksium Race wheelset flex more than the PX-Bs
