any thoughts on the spd Vs spd-sl options?0 -
Make sure they fit.
Sizings on cycling shoes are a bit, um, unconventional!Richard
Giving it Large0 -
You really need to go into a shop and try shoes on, the size of cycling shoes bears no resemblance to the size you would normally buy :?He is not the messiah, he is a very naughty boy !!0

SPD'S are easier to use - but SPD-SL provide greater power transfer - you feel more attached to the bike. - If you leaning towards racing or speed \ performance SL is the way to go.
I like northwave shoes - might want to check those out.0 -
The SPD pedals are more for mountain biking because they are less likely to become clogged with mud, the cleats are small and fit into a recess in the shoe sole and this means you can walk pretty much normally whereas the SL have large cleats that do not recess into the shoe and not really designed for walking.
Nothing wrong with SPD for a road bike though, one advantage is that many are double sided and are very easy to clip into and some have a resonabe size platform for good contact area.
If you need to do some walking during your rides the SPD will be better suited. SDP SL are ok if walking is limited to cafe stops and you're more concerned with power transfer for training, racing etc or if you're a road enthusiast that wants to look the part.O na bawn i fel LA0 -
bought the RT80s.
Now need to find the 'right' pedal.0 -
Good deal by the looks of things, but you will need SPD (NOT SPD-SL) pedals to go with them. SPD-SL, despite the similar name, is completely different (3 bolts to start with).0

yep got that now THX,0

These will work well with the RT-80's and are a decent price. http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/mountain-bike-pedals/shimano-bike-pedals/shimano-m520-spd-pedal.htmlCycling weakly0

The egg-beaters aren't renowned for being the most rugged - better paying the extra fiver for the Shimano's - they're bullet-proof.Cycling weakly0
