Managed to aquire this old thing which I will use for riding to work. Its bit of a project bike really.
I could just give it a good service, replace old parts and get it back on the road. Or I could strip the frame, repaint, singlespeed?
Any sensible suggestions welcome. Mods apologies if this is the wrong section.
If any retro experts have any info on this thing please let me know.

if you're leaving it locked up outside, as little as possible. knackered looking bikes put little thieving thieves awayRock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.0

a bit of a tidy up (cheap / ebay / clearance parts) - singlespeed & slicks and youre good to go (as long as you can secure it at work - if you cant then as said leave it looking as rough as you like)
heres what my old (1997 lee cooper) MTB frame has become -

built mostly with bits i had laying about - since im a tart i had to buy a few things just for colour scheme purposes but all up the rebuild cost me about 100 quid which i dont reckon is too bad for a reasonably smart looking urban MTB / commuter

Ooh, it's got SIS thumbies! That's a win in playground top trumps, provided it's about 1987 anyway .Uncompromising extremist0

I once saw a late 90's Yeti DH bike in the middle of Liverpool city centre that had been brush painted with magnolia wall paint :shock:0 -

Barbeque paint, very nice and easy to spray.
I was going to go the laquer over steel approach with mine but just balked at the amount of work that'd be involved in the final finish, would have looked mint though.Uncompromising extremist0 -

hi ian,
choices, choices, choices.....
Why not do each tube a differnt colour... bit like a beneton advert from the same era as the bike!!
If not, i saw on one of those bike build off programs on sky where they used a type of acid to make the whole thing rust effect on the surface. Only prob is it is gonna ruin the blues!!
DONT DO IT WHITE!!!
Just spent 2 hrs stripping, cleaning and post wash lubing the giant and discovered loads more scuffs to the white paintwork.
Last idea, you remember that paint that schools used to use everywhere, usually in the shitters!! It was like a grotty base colour with various paint splatters in it!!!
