why does it refer to them as "inserts". I thought inserts were the pads you could slide and lock into re-usable brake shoes? Don't want to spend £9 and then find out I need to buy something else to slot them into.

Hmmmm...they don't look like inserts in the photo - more like blocks with threads. Perhaps email Wiggle customer services, but I think that they are what you are looking for.
