Hi,
I want a new computer that gives me cadence, would it be sensible for me to get a HRM too?
I was going to be on a budget but, the Garmin 705 looks like an awsome bit of kit, are there any other reccomendations? Do I need to spend that much?

i've got a Cateye strada Cadence -

Around £30 - £35 if you shop around - i don't use the cadence function that much on the road - i use it more when on the turbo trainer, and then the rear wheel speed sensor is a bonus too,0 -
yes, I saw that - If there are no great reccomendations for the garmin, I shall probably go with that.0

i also use a Polar HRM as well - RS400.. works well - allows programming training sessions etc ans has a zone pointer, so you can see when you are going too hard and might pop, and therefore when to back off....
The pair work well tohether as a training tool.
I've no experience of the Garmon 500 or 705, but all reviews seem to be glowing... I'm not sure i can be bothered with having to take it off all the time to recharge it tho..... i quire like the fact a trad. bike computer is relatively low tech and is reliable, low maintenance and is therefore always "ready"0 -
Garmins add the sat nav elements and are best for that along with the rest of the functions that goes with it.
If your not fussed about Sat Nav stuff then a Cateye is fine.
The V2 was rated recently in CP which gives Cadence and Speed (doubles Wireless).
For HRM Polar's are good too but I use a Cateye V3 (Triple Wireless). Plus I have a 2nd bike kit so I can simply swap the V3 unit onto either of my bikes.
it works great!Planet X RT-57 custom build0 -

i was just looking at the V3 online, it looks pretty good, are you pleased with it / would you recommend it?0 -
I've had 2 of them now (first one I sold with my bike) and they are just very reliable and easy to set up. I would recommend them very much.
I had a Velomann which offered the same functions but it went wrong twice.
IIRC Hargrove Cycles sell the V3's new for approx £90 too.
You can get them cheaper 2nd hand on ebay but even then they fetch good money.Planet X RT-57 custom build0 -
the bike is going into Hargroves tomorrow for a Service, so I shall pick one up, It looks like just the ticket!0
