I would guess you could expect about £500 - £600 if it is in good nick.

i have one of these and was watching one on ebay over weekend (just for interest).
sounds similar to yours, ie upgraded shifters.

    ended up going for £805.

would suggest you try the classifieds first as ebay will no doubt cripple you with charges if you sell through there.

You would a depreciation of between 40 to 50 % 1st year... i reckon it then sort of levels out if the bike model remains current, good qual etc etc.
This goes for mainstream... more unusual bikes prob have their own supply and demand influences.
    Don't rubbish Ebay immediately.
Selling is a numbers game... Classifieds on a niche website? well honestly how many ... 1/2 dozen -- 100 who knows?
Ebay,, everyone knows it and every one and their dog do seem to use it as well.
ok , no one likes paying fees.. including me... but the question is when you want to sell, you actually want a sale and there is more than every chance using Ebay.

Used bikes on ebay are making very good money at the moment. I have been keeping an eye on them and they are going way above what i would expect them to.

£805 was clearly over the odds but, hey, I guess the seller was over the moon. :D

Bloody right they are! I'm looking for a bike for the wife (fair trade, boom-tish) and can't believe the price of some of the wrecks that are being sold.

More money than sense some people.

I think that you'll get £750 minimum on eBay although there will then be your selling fees to take into account.

Many buyers do seem to pay over the odds on there but if you've described the bike accurately and clearly photographed any faults should there be any, then you can hardly be held accountable for that!

    Good luck

I wouldn't pay over 60% original value for a used bike, even if it had only been ridden 1200 miles. The warranty alone is worth a heck of a lot.

But then a lot of people seem not to know that the warranty on a bike is NOT in general transferable so a lifetime warranty on a used bike means bugger all.

But I also know how insane ebay can be so I don't doubt that there are plenty of people out there stupid enough to pay 80%+ of a bikes original value just because it looks almost new.
    More problems but still living....
  • ive just sold a bmc streetfire on ebay . was looking for about £350 . guy rang me and offered £450 to end auction early . i took his offer and ended auction and didnt pay any fees ( exept listing ) . if you sell on ebay include your phone number in the listing and put bike advertised elsewhere .

You sold your BMC too cheaply in my view - don't know the spec on yours but I sold mine (ultegra & 105 mix & Fulcrum 7 wheelset) just a couple of weeks back for £675.

I partly agree with your advertising policy though - eBay fees are outrageous!
  • it was veloce and standard 2 years old 3000 miles .cost me £ 1000 so i think i got a good price ?

If you were happy with the price then that is the most important thing anyway. Wasn't too bad as you say.

yes the whole ebay thing is a real bugbear for me. What's the point in buying a bike second hand for nearly more than the damn thing cost new. It just makes no sense at all.

E.g. the person advertising a 6 month old boardman carbon only for 899 buy it now only. I hope no-one bought it

    Sorry rant over

There is a Boardman Comp 2009 on there at the moment with the following accessories for £800 buy it now:

    1. Fitted bottle cage
    2. Fitted pump
    3. Giro helmet, Size large (59-63cm) BNIB. This item has been taken out of the box and tried on only.
    4. Bikehut gloves, size large (wind and rain proof)
    5. Bicycle Line cycling shorts, size large BNWT
    6. Instruction booklet
    7. Receipt for bike and all accessories

It is only £699 for a new 2010 model. I dont know if there is much difference but it seems a lot for a 2nd hand bike.
