Hi,
I am a newby to mtbing and am just starting to get involved, i gave up smoking 2 months ago and my fitness is not yet what it needs to be to cope with some of the cycle routes that are listed. Can anyone advise of a route that is not too long in distance and not too hilly which would be a good route to start with to build my fitness. I live in the south Manchester area and do not mind traveling a bit. Also if anyone would like to join me please PM me and it would be great to hear from you, and great to have some advice.
Thanks

Maybe try Cannock chase near birmingham. The main route is only about 8 miles and not too technically challenging plus there are easier routes there too. More info on my website (see my sig below)My Website - Trail Centre info for the UK: MTB Trail Time0

Try the transpennine Trail. It's nice and flat for a beginner and will help you build up stamina.
You can get on the TPT quite easily from most suburbs in south manc.
You can always try small loops in the peaks or head on over to Llandegla.0 -
I've been working in Manchester for a while and living in Sale. I've been using the Trans Pennine in the week which is flat so maybe good for you to get a few miles in. I would also look at Rivington and Delamere both of which are not far away.
I would have thought that Cannock was a bit far for week days? Isn't it like 50 miles away?
PM me if you want to come out one night.0 -
Hi Rockriderwi
I live in South Manchester and generally I ride to Piccadilly and then get the train to Marple Rose Hill (only about 25min) and from there there are some good routes to be found starting in the Roman Lakes- lots of bridleways and trails and some good rides over the moors in Mellor, Rowarth and New Mills. I'm pretty much a begginner too so I don't think they'd pose a problem for you.
If you're still building up your fitness you can just do small loops starting and finishing in the Roman Lakes and then gradually increase the distance as you get used to all the local trails.
Also as someone as already pointed out the TPT is nearby too- you can get on at the back of the Merseyway shopping centre in Stockport- I sometimes do a very quick loop going up through Reddish Vale and then across the Tameside Trail and back along the Peak Forest canal and then the River Goyt which brings you back out in Woodbank Park in Stockport.
If your interested PM me and I'll send you some more detailed info over.0
