question on sora shifter

I purchased a sora right hand flightdeck shifter which was advertised as a 8 speed unit. I am building a bike up so have fitted it and run a gear cable to a tiagra 8 speed rear mech, however the shifter only clicks 7 clicks. Does this mean it is`only seven speed. Sorry to ask what may be an`obvious question, but I currently do not have a wheel fitted to the frame with a cassette so Cannot fullly test it.

    its 8 speed. if you start on the big sprocket there is 7 clicks down from there. it doesnt count the one your on. ie 7 gear changes + the sprocket the chain is allready on which requires no click.
