edited April 2010 in MTB stolen
Whilst on holiday in the lake district near Whinlatter w/c 12th April my bike was stolen from the campsite during the night, it is a 2008 model with front brake caliper and lever missing also has vivid blue hope quick release on rear wheel. Red specialized front hub. Paint detail rubbed off on the underside of the top cross bar in middle section. WARNING - anyone visiting the lakes should be extra vigilant bikes are being stolen right left and centre, thieves are picky and know what they are looking for and it seems from my experience on talking to people in the area that they are after the high end specialized models

Cool well the pictures were helpful, I'll go have a look now...
  • Hi I ride in the lakes a fair bit and will keep an eye out. Where was the bike at when it was nicked?

I have heard stories of them being taken straight of parked cars in the lakes and into vans. I always use a thule 591 and lock it and leave it in sight. Never leave the bike out of site even for 5 minutes . Although I am planning a camping weekender in September so may have to source overnight storage.

PS why no front brake fitted?

Yes I use a thule 591 also and I double lock it, I was staying at Scotgate Holiday Park in Braithwaite at the foot of Whinlatter. The reason there was no front brake on the bike was that I removed it to repair it and decided that to seek professional help from Biketreks in Ambleside, unfortunately the bike was stolen before I could deal with the brake. Thanks for you support

Also FYI the bike was locked up along with another three and these were left behind even thou they laid one of them down on the grass 2 take mine!! So certainly seems they knew what they wanted
  • Buggers. what did they leave behind? . Hope they take it for a spin and die in a nasty crash due to lack of braking. Sounds horrid but it was likely someone on the site. Either that or people were cruising around whinlatter looking for easy pickings. :(

Yes all of these thoughts have crossed my mind, it is a pretty secluded site in a small village I'm sure you will know the area. They left behind my wifes Specialized Myka Elite 09 model, and my 2 daughters bikes a Specialized Hardrock Sport 07 model and a Trek 4300 08 model. No one heard a thing last I saw of it was 10.30pm when I pumped up the tyres ready for my early morning ride, got up at 6.30am to find it was gone.

Hope you get your bike back C4YAK, it's a pain in the ass when things like this happen :x

Anyway, i'm sure you're feeling much better about it after all the sarcastic comments from the mods - surprised there's no witty remark regarding the lack of pictures of Whinlatter lake...
