Wondering what bike to buy, got a budget of £900, have looked at Trek 1.5 think it looks pretty good, anyone with details on how this bike really is, have heard that the Shimano Tiagra shifters are the cheapest ones Shimano makes, is an upgrade available or even possible? Also the tires are quite heavy I've heard. I'm pretty new to roadbikes, so I'm in desperate need for good advice... =)

    Tiagra are second up from bottom, very good and reliable by all accounts, above this level with Shimano are all 10 speed so upgrading will be more costly and involved. Much better off upping your budget slightly to get what you want from the outset. You could get a very nice second hand, barely used bike for that money or for an extra 100 quid you could get a planet x which come very highly regarded by owners on this forum and elsewhere;

    If you are able to spend an extra 100 quid then CAAD 9 is the bike to go for, altho there are many bikes around £1,000 that you can't go wrong with

    Tiagra is a fantastic upgrade from Sora shifters, as you can shift up and down from the drops meaning you retain control at high speeds and when you need that all important boost from the drops.

    Next up is 105 which is 10 speed and apparently, not the huge leap Sora>tiagra is... although ive never ridden a 105 setup myself so can only regurgitate opinion =P

    Carrera Viagra Carbon's a good bike for around that price. Usaully about £900, but I saw it for £700 the other day in Halfords :P Full Carbon, Ultegra gear-set... Can't really go wrong :)

    Six months on, still thrilled by my CAAD9.
