Remove, clean and replace crankset
Bought a small box of tools but I'm a complete amateur when it comes to spannering
Washed my bike for the first time in years today and it's come up grand. However, I recall towards the end of last summer's rides there appeared to be a squeak (as I pedalled) coming from somewhere around the crankset.
If it not too tricky I'd like to remove the crankset, clean it, lube it and replace it.
Any decent videos, instructions about on the net?
If it matters bike is a 2001 Klein Quantum with Shimano 105

Why do you want to clean it before you replace it??
Squeak likely to be pedal bearings or cleats squeaking IMHO.0 -

Given it's a 2001 bike, the chainset should be octalink. It's a very straightforward job to remove the chainset, but you need the right crank puller.

To be honest though, I wouldn't think you'll achieve that much in terms of extra cleaning by removing the chainset.
If you choose to remove the chainset, you might want to consider going a bit further and remove and clean the bottom bracket. This would require more tools again, but could be worth it, as a lot of gunk can gather around the bottom bracket, especially if you ride a lot in the rain.

Part of me wants to take it to the LBS for a service and part of me wants to buy a bikestand and do it myself.....especially now it looks so good

You don't need a bike stand for a service - go on have a go.0

Other thing that causes squeaks is cleats on Look pedals, if you use them. The cleat rubs on the pedal platform and can squeal and squeak.0

I took my crankset off last week to clean it. It's a triple, and some of the nooks and crannies are pretty inaccessible with it on the bike. HT-II though, so really straightforward.
If yours is an Octalink BB there's nothing you can grease; it's a cartridge type bottom bracket and if it's rough or squeaking you just replace it (you'll need a bb removal tool)0
