Football Commentators - are there any decent ones left?

Mike Ingham just now on Five Live "...listen to the atmosphere here (Spurs), that's why Mourinho wants to come back - you don't get this in Serie A"
I mean WTF!?! Has he ever been to a Serie A game? Rome or Milan derby perchance? Bags more atmosphere than the perennially stale, sterile Prem.
Heard another BBC commentator state "..they're literally blowing the opposition off the pitch" a few days ago as well - probably Ingham again
Don't even get me started on that prrrriiiickkk Alan Green. :x

Agreed. I really miss Barry Davies, especially when a big tournament is on like the WC this year.0

You should have watched it on ESPN, their commentator is the best IMHO, and the atmosphere certainly wasn`t sterile. Martin whatshisface on Sky is good too.Smarter than the average bear.0

During the winter Olympics the BBC streamed some earlier rounds of the ice hockey on the internet, but without *any* commentary at all, just crowd noise. It was eye opening. I found I had to actually watch the game, there was nobody there to tell me what to look at. When they brought the commentary teams in for the later rounds it wasn't as good.
I'd be very curious to see how a football match would work with just the stadium noise - I don't think just turning the sound off would really work.0 -
Bill Mc Claren.. The God of ALL commentators0

yeah better than everyone else.
Tim Lovejoy is the uber c0ck. Alan Green is so far up his own backside he can see the back of his teeth and the rest are xenophobic in their love of the premiership/t or blander than boliled tofu.
Sid Waddell the true king of commentators.0 -

Stuart Hall. Pure class. Quite why Radio 5 keep sending him to the likes of scunthorpe vs rochdale is a mystery to me.0

I'd love the option to turn commentary off on all televised footy. Can you imagine having the Kop miked up during a Merseyside derby or a game against Man Utd?0
-
Yeah it would be great to listen to all the scarf waving badge wearing numpties in the kop. I don't think.0

Why?
Because after listening to his very entertaining 5 minute summary at the end of the game on Sports Report on 5 Live, you are left asking yourself:
a) who was playing
b) what was the resultWant to know the Spen666 behind the posts?

Live sports on the beeb give you the option to turn the commentary off and have just the crowd noise or listen to the radio commentary. It doesnt work for all Sports though, it makes F1 even more boring.
Barry Davies was always my favourite, "why do Man Utd sing glory glory when its a Spurs song".0
