Watch out in Essex, and other areas in fact. Thieves have been stealing manhole covers. :evil:

This really cheeses me off. The injuries they can cause are horrific just so they can get next to nothing worth of scrap steel.
as far as I know steel is worth about £70 per ton. A ton is a huge amount of manhole covers.

It was happening down here in southampton about 4 years back. What scapyard worth their salt lets a guy come in with what is OBVIOUSLY a manhole cover and a) doesnt take down any details/get ID and b) thinks "this is a sound investment"
Isnt just manhole covers though. Leading off roofing, copper pipes and wiring from premises, you name it. These gangs are taking what they can.0 -

At our local scrappy they have to see your car number plate before they let you sell scrap, what a joke like they couldn't steal on of those as well.
My favourite scrap thieves are the ones they find charred like a pork scratching attached to a live copper busbar in a substation
