first post so bear with me.
I have a 2009 shimano 105 chainset which is the none compact version 53/40 , does anyone know which compact chain rings will fit this, as the shimano one's are too small on the bcd
help please hill climbs getting tougher.

none of the compact rings will fit your standard setup - you will need a compact chainset...0

You can get chainrings that will fit a double chainset in 'compact' sizes. But only marginally so.
THe big ring is easy - you can get rings that are anywhere from 46 to 53 teeth. And 38 to 44 teeth on the inner ring.
But if you want to go truly compact and go below 38 teeth, then you'll need a compact chainset with 110BCD.0 -
thanks for that , can you tell me who makes them ?
Cheers

One other alternate to consider is changing your current cassette (I'm guessing you have a 12-25?) - a 12-27 would give you a slightly lower gear.Cycling weakly0
