WTF, hopefully crap like that will never come into force, it's ruin cycling. I mean, getting off and walking at roundabouts of bus lanes??

I'm suprised they didn't go all the way and suggest helmet compulsion, rider and cycle licencing, and MOTs for bikes.

    Ahem...http://www.ukip.org/media/pdf/UKIPtransport.pdf

10.6 UKIP would consult on the desirability of minimum third party liability insurance
cover for cyclists - a simple annual flat rate registration ‘Cycledisc’, stuck to the bicycle
frame, to cover damage to cars and others, which are currently unprotected. The
Cycledisc should also carry clear identification details, which will help counter bicycle
theft, and deter dangerous cyclist behaviour. We support provision of cycle parking at
    reasonable charges.

The logic appears to be that cars (and others - such as skip-lorries and cement trucks??) are unprotected when they hit bikes.

Also, free provision of cycle parking is, of course, unreasonable. And as for free pavements, has anybody heard of such a ridiculous idea?

I wish I was clever enough to upload a picture of a bell and an end.

How does the cycledisc scheme encourage the occasional cyclist and parents taking their kids out at the weekend and MTB'ers that never ride the roads
Let alone the massive additional weight that it will add to a roadies featherlite machine

How does it apply to the uninsured motorists (as hit me) and why does it not make any reference to the Motor Insurance Bureau (MIB) scheme whereby the honest, insured motorists all pay a (hidden) surcharge on our car insurance to fund a pot that all insurers have to pay into and use to cover payouts to their clients for damage and collisions with uninsured vehicles?

  • I was only joking about UKIP targetting free pavements, but they're halfway there....how's this for stUKIPity:

6.9 UKIP will replace national free bus passes with 50% discount travel (rail/bus/taxi)
cards for senior citizens and others qualifying. Local councils may offer free services
paid from local taxes. There is evidence local post offices have suffered from the
availability of free bus travel into towns.

Those pesky pensioners, eh? Expecting to be able to afford to go to the nearest town, whatever next?

Didnt I raise this in the campaign section about 2 months back? These aint new ideas. Yes they were batting with the idea of helmet compulsion, plus increased fines for wronguns etc.. As I said at the time, having read their crime and order document (forget the exact name tbh) they are a bit deluded and have seriously relied on scare tactics

UKIP wont get in power. They've struggled to keep and attract members, and struggled to get seats in the house. They've struggled to even so much as get council seats. Farrage is an interesting and intelligent man, however he is a petrolhead and loves his ciggies - that should be warning enough to anyone who loves a healthy lifestyle.

The party I'm most interested in now is the LibDems. Though they've said b****er all about cycling in the manifesto - and this is a serious lack of foresight. Cycling as transport and as a fitness solution will only increase over the next few years.

Oh and slightly off topic. Watching THIS VIDEO its really interesting to see how viewers seem to react in horror when Brown speaks. Perhaps its best Labour have kept stumn about cycling, LOL. We dont want to tarnish ourselves and our reputations.
