Hmmm, but does it work?0

You can't stop there Nick, we need pics of the whole bike.0

Why bother with a fixie in the first place?Santa Cruz Chameleon
Orange Alpine 1600 -
nice choice of brake in my opinion.0

I hope the chainset doesn't flex. Pedal, brake, pedal, brake, squeek, fail.0

hmmm, chain stretch?0

How do you change pads?0

You need a rotor for a normal brake. Rotors have a mass, m.
m>0
Thus, this.
Or maybe someone just didn't have quite enough cable..0 -

Whats wrong with a normal brake?!
Innovation for innovation's sake is a good thing.
You never know, he might be on to something. I'm specifically thinking of road racing bikes where weight is such a massive issue0 -

+1 for innovation for innovation's sake.
But weight isn't important at all for road racing. Its ridiculously easy to get it down the UCI weight limit, adding a bit on someone can easily be balanced by taking it off elsewhere.0 -
But it would only work on fixies
Also could affect peddaling power if not set up correctly, I know from personal experiance that Avids are a pain to set up0 -
would work with gears as well0

Not if it had a freehub0 -

Well go down to your shed and start working on it then
You could make millions
probably not though0 -
Oh god has someone started a trail of thought that's led to gears on a fixed bike. Why not just ride down big hills with no brakes blindfolded..0

jadamson wrote:would work with gears as well
no, no it wouldn't ... well, OK, yes it would, but it'd only stop the crank, that clicking you then hear from the freehub as you careen on into the corner is the sound of your impending doom.
nice idea, I'm all for ideas for ideas' sake, looks quite nice aswell. can't see myself fitting one though ... quite aside from not owning a fixie
good point about chain lube too!Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer
If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day0 -
but you forget about the Sturmy 3 speed fixed hub.
so yes it would work with gears........"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Surely oil is going to get on the pads.Smarter than the average bear.0

thank nicklouse :P0 -
It's a cool idea, but doesn't it only count as a single braked fixed gear bike?0
